Berry and Chocolate Balsamic Trifle

This scrumptious berry and chocolate balsamic trifle is the ultimate solution for a quick, delicious and romantic dessert -- just in time for Valentine's Day!  Simply toss pound cake with Olive Tree's Blood Orange Olive Oil and berries with our Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar. Layer with whipped cream in a martini or champagne glass and you'll soon be toasting dessert heaven!

Serves 6

Ingredients:

24 oz of fresh mixed berries (can be raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries)

Angel Food or Pound Cake (choose your preference of light vs heavier)

Whipped Cream (homemade is easy and best; see below!)

2 Tbsp. Olive Tree Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar

2 Tbsp. Olive Tree Blood Orange Olive Oil

Instructions:

Mash berries with a fork. Mix with Balsamic Vinegar. Let sit for 20 minutes to allow syrup to form.

Cut cake (purchased or homemade) into small pieces. Toss it with Olive Oil.

Make the trifle layer in a champagne or martini glass in this order, repeating at least two layers:

  • Cake pieces tossed in olive oil
  • Fresh whipped cream
  • Berries in balsamic syrup

Cool in the fridge during dinner so all flavors blend then whip it out for the perfect meal finale.

Note: If your dessert will sit before serving, use a stabilized whipped cream recipe, such as this one from Pinch of Yum:

HOMEMADE WHIPPED CREAM

1 cup cold heavy whipped cream

2 tbsp. sugar

½ tsp. vanilla

¼ tsp. cream of tartar.

Put the mixing bowl and mixer’s whisk in freezer for 20 minutes before making. Make sure cream is as cold as possible. Whisk on high for about 1 minute or until you see peaks.
