October 13th – Book signing with author of Hot Flashes of Life, Rachel Ellyn 2-4 p.m.
Who is Rachel Ellyn . . . ?
Author, Radio Show Co-Host, Serial Divorcee, Stiletto Evangelist, Hopeless Romantic, Bourbon Lover, Disfunctional Diva, and mother of 3 plus Pixie!
What the "professional" world would say about me . . .
Having degrees in Finance and Economics, Rachel found wonderful success in the business world, taking her accounting and financial process consulting international. In the subsequent years, Rachel finally realized her own passion was fueled by educating and cheerleading entrepreneurial success within the Kansas City writing community.
With her new found fuel, Rachel now combines her love of writing and storytelling with her knowledge and drive that lead to her business success as she shares her off-beat take on the world with her enthusiastic readers.
Her newest book, Hot Flashes of Life, is a sometimes whimsical, sometimes thought provoking, always entertaining, whirlwind tour of life seen through her globetrotting short stories. This book features two of Rachel’s favorite genres, Creative Non-Fiction and Flash Fiction.
Flash Fiction is quite simply a very short story. But this genre fuels heated debate over word count with proponents voicing opinions from 50 to 1,500 words. The fun part is this genre has become a literary necessity in our modern, 24/7, on-to-go society.
Rachel lives in the Kansas City Metropolitan area with her two remaining "not yet 18" children and her crazy puppy dog, Pixie.
Last but not least a recipe for you
We are very fortunate to have a great friend like Ann Lund. Ann is very busy developing recipes and teaching classes but still makes time for us! We had a terrific Girls Night Out last month and I am including a recipe from that event. Thank you, Ann!! Enjoy!
GOAT CHEESE WITH LEMON & HERBS
This is a beautiful appetizer which tastes as good as it looks!!
1 (11-16 oz) log fresh goat cheese, sliced into rounds
2 Tbl. freshly grated lemon zest
½ c. finely chopped, drained oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes
2 tsp. minced capers
1 Tbl. coarsely chopped fresh thyme leaves
Sea salt or kosher salt
6 small rosemary sprigs
1 Cup Olive Tree Tunisian extra-virgin olive oil
In shallow dish such as a quiche dish, arrange the rounds of goat cheese in one layer. Don’t worry if some of the pieces crumble; just tuck them into the dish. Sprinkle the lemon zest, sun-dried tomatoes, capers, and thyme over the cheese. Sprinkle a little sea salt (Himalayan is great if you have it) or kosher salt over the cheese, and tuck the rosemary sprigs into the dish. Pour the olive oil over the cheese so that if just covers it (use a little more if necessary). Let the cheese marinate in the refrigerator for several hours. Bring the dish to room temperature (about 45 minutes) before serving. Serve with toasted baguette slices or good quality crackers.
I am looking forward to seeing you for these great events. Don’t forget your holiday shopping—we’ve got you covered! Come chat with our staff to find the perfect gifts. Shop early! Get it done so you can relax!
